Afghan National Association for Adult Education (ANAFAE) conducted a 10 days Post Literacy Workshop for literacy teachers and supervisors from 20 July – 31 July 2019 in Kabul Province. The workshop was held simultaneously in two locations; in District 13 (Shahrak Abdullah Ansar and Shahrak Itifaq) and in Paghman District, Kabul Province. In all, 52 participants were attended in this workshop.
This training workshop is part of a nine month long literacy education project which supports the creation of sustainable livelihood for internally displaced and returning families in the Kabul province, funded by WHH and implemented by ANAFAE.
At the beginning of the nine month long literacy courses which is called the basic literacy part, a 20 days training was conducted. Here the literacy teachers learnt about the objectives of the a literacy education course and about effective teaching and communication methods with the literacy learners, how to use the literacy book and the teacher guide and how to develop a daily teaching plan. In addition, they also learnt to inform and to teach about important health and hygiene issues that support the health situation in the families of the returning refugees.
Now in the post Literacy Education Part, during the last three month of the literacy education courses, the focus of the teacher training was more to present topics like vocation and how create own income, the importance of environment protection, of social and human rights issues in their literacy classes. The content of the post literacy books were studied. The teachers learnt new and adequate teaching methodologies and participatory training approaches, such as presentation, brain-storming, collection of ideas, group work, question and answer, lecturer and practical work to transfer the topics to the literacy learners in their classes.
The supervisors improved the abilities to monitor the development of learners and to measure the impact of the literacy courses. They also improved their skills to solve challenges and problems of the teachers and give advice to them in regard to the teaching process.
