The training workshop was organized and facilitated by the ANAFAE literacy education team from 12th Jan till 3rd Feb 2016.

The overall goal of the training was to build the capacities of literacy teachers and supervisors on adult education methods to enable them to provide practical literacy education courses in their areas.

The objective of the workshop was to raise the participant’s awareness on history of literacy, literacy, types, literacy objectives, differences between formal and informal literacy. In addition, the participants received new skills for effective communication and teaching methodologies, on how to who to prepare the daily teaching plans, how to use the teacher guides and how to implement the literacy education lesson in an interesting way, relate to the normal live and the inclusion of the returning refugee families.

At the end of training each teacher presented a practical demo lesson.

The ANAFAE Master Literacy Trainers used different training methods such as presentation, brain storming, group work, questions and answers, lectures, practical work and methods to transfer the share information and knowledge with new teachers. At the end of the training the new teachers received their certificates as facilitators for basic literacy education.

Additional health and hygiene related subjects were introduced. These topics will be integrated to the literacy courses and will provide practical help to the families and a better basic understanding of the health problems, especially in regard to the health problems of young children.

In all, 47 participants including 42 new literacy teachers (41 female, 1 male), 4 literacy supervisors and 2 master trainers took part in the training program.

The teachers are now responsible for teaching basic literacy and later on for the post literacy courses, while the supervisors will supervise the literacy courses and provide feeback to the teachers. They will also check whether the teaching process in liteacy classes go according to plan.
